Andy Votel – Dublab Session

votel copy

Headtripper extrordinaire, Mr. Andy Votel has made an exclusive mix for Dublab! Thanks to Neut for passing this on.

Andy Votel of the flawless Finders Keepers kingdom is a purveyor of all things far out. His record collection is something akin to the Ark of the Covenant. Listen to it and your mind will surely melt. Call us masochists but we enjoy this mind melting sensation immensely. It sheds us of the unnecessary hyperactive awareness that buzzes through our brainwaves. Andy came back into dublab to help relieve us of the known world and make our souls one with the universal psychedelic spirit.” – Dublab

CROSBY & NASH Live In San Francisco, 1974 (Unreleased Live Album)

nash and crosby

I grew up listening to CSNY. Many younger readers may regard this as hippy bullshit, but in all reality, it’s soul music pure and simple. Plus David crosby is a genius singer that you should all check out at least once in your life. here’s a bootlegged gig that shows off the sweet harmonies of these American icons.

“Excellent live show recorded Dec. 14, 1974 by ace producer and engineer, Wally Heider, edited as a live album that would never come out. Fantastic sound @192, the way I first got it. Also known as the Whale & Fieldworkers Benefit 1974 concert. There are a number of highlights, including Crosby’s new (at the time) “Carry Me” and a slow, tortured reading of “Wooden Ships.” These ears were most pleased to hear the fresh takes of Crosby’s newest songs and the retirement of almost all of Nash’s already-dated-by-1974 political material.” – via Mog blog

Dr. Schluss presents Groovy Mix Tape Vol. 1

mixtapecover

A real gone funky weirdo wig out from the good doctor, Dr. Schluss.

“While most of this probably falls under the psychedelic umbrella, there are a few deviations. You’ll find some of these albums in the psychedelic garage, but we’ve also got stuff like a little 70’s jazz-funk lurking about, along with a touch of rawk. There’s also a fewer newer releases represented here which are too recent for me to feel ok posting the entire album. I made this little compilation to illustrate to Scott, the other fellow involved with Damaged Tape and Glaze of Cathexis, where my musical headspace is currently residing. This is the kind of stuff that I end up playing everyday. It’s certainly influenced the new Glaze of Cathexis album (which will be posted in the next few days) and a few even more recent recordings. Hopefully you’ll dig at least some of the music that’s been catching my ear.” – Dr. Schluss

1. Agoraphobia – Deerhunter
2. Rainbow – Thee Oh Sees
3. Half Up Front – Prefuse 73
4. For Our Elegant Caste – Of Montreal

Paul White – FACT Mix 43

factmix43-paul-white

London-based Paul White is set to release his debut album, The Strange Dreams of Paul White, One-Handed Music next month.

It’s a kaleidoscopic, unpredictable record which is rooted in hip-hop but has rather more cosmic ambitions than that, playing homage to prog, psychedelia and idiosyncratic library music. White is one of the UK’s most hyped young producers right now, with a string of 7″s for One-Handed getting tastemakers like Mary Anne Hobbs and Benji B very excited; and while he’s undeniably part of the post-Flying Lotus instrumental hip-hop renaissance, his music stands alone, and speaks for itself.

To herald it’s arrival of The Strange Dreams of Paul White, Paul has kindly put together an exclusive FACT Mix, one which is one of our favourites to date, and certainly the most eccentric (check out the tracklisting below). It features tracks by Todd Rundgren, Eek-A-Mouse, Zodiac and umpteen new and previously unreleased productions by White himself. It’s perfectly dreamy, surreal and sensuous music for these unusually sunny days, so dig in.

Ian Lloyd & Stories – Hard When You’re So Far Away – Kama Sutra
The Cecil Holmes Orchestra – Pillow Talk – Accord
Rhinoceros – Apricot Brandy – Elektra
Kapt. Kopter And The (Fabulous) Twirly Birds – Things Yet To Come – Epic
Fairport Convention – Autopsy – Island
Myriam Makeba – Kadeya Deya – Philips
Eek-A-Mouse – Unknown – Greensleeves
Barrington Levy – Under Me Dub – Time
Dennis Brown – Children Of Israel – D.E.B.
The Possie – Betcha Dub – Black Roots
Todd Rundgren – If Six Was Nine – Bearsville
Lenny White – Pursuit – Elektra
Planet Gong – New Age Transformation Try: No More Sages – Charly
SBB – Pamiec W Kamien Wrasta – Muza
